Obituary of William James Aitken

William James Aitken, 83, died peacefully in his sleep on December 30, 2021 in Venice, Florida while watching a football game.

Bill graduated from Hobart High School in Indiana, was a US Marine and spent his entire working life in the insurance business. Bill was always ready to better the world and to show up for new and healthy initiatives including creating many fundraisers which helped provide resources for families and scholarships for kids. Most notably, Bill was a lover of sports, beloved Pop Warner football coach in Hobart, IN and expert recruiter for college basketball. A devout Catholic, Bill helped start a thriving Knights of Columbus chapter at San Antonio Catholic Church in Punta Gorda, Florida. An avid salesman, Bill taught many the art of a good handshake, how to polish your shoes as-well-as the importance of good manners.

Bill is survived by his devoted wife Carole who tended him lovingly throughout the last ten years of his life. His family included parents, Thomas and Marion Aitken both deceased, six sisters Gloria Anne deceased, Peggy deceased, Mary Ann deceased, Sue, Kathy and Barbie. Bill lived a robust life including 4 devoted wives, 3 children, 3 bonus sons whom he adored, 14 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Bill's 1st wife and family include Janet Scott deceased with children Scott Aitken (Lori), Joan Pinegar, Phil Aitken (Janet), 2nd wife and family Barbara Aitken deceased with sons Scott Gallagher, Michael Gallagher (Liz), Greg Gallagher (Carrie), 3rd wife Mary Ellen Aitken deceased as-well-as many lifelong friends.

In celebration of Bill's life a memorial mass and luncheon will be held Friday, January 21 at 11 AM at San Antonio Catholic Church, Punta Gorda, Florida
